The fourth generation Astra echoes Vauxhall’s new design ethos giving the new model a premium feel reflected in the host of features found on the car. Such technical innovation and groundbreaking design has set new standards in the compact sector.
Class-leading dynamics will be delivered by an all-new chassis and new engines maximise low-end torque resulting in improved fuel consumption.
Highlights
The Front Camera System, which debuted in the Insignia, combines traffic sign recognition with a lane departure system, improving occupant safety and potentially helping drivers avoid fines.
Another Insignia feature the Next generation Adaptive Front Lighting (AFL) adapts to different road and driving conditions by providing nine unique light beams, improving visibility and safety during night-time driving.
New Astra borrows from some of its other siblings including Corsa – the clever and practical FlexFix integrated carrier is taken from this car.
Clever Storage and Comfort
Special emphasis has gone into the design and engineering of the Astra’s seats, which now have industry-leading levels of adjustment. In addition, the Ergonomic Sports Seats (standard in all Elite models) have improved tilt adjustment, four-way power lumbar support, superior side support and supporting foam pads.
The new generation Astra has a raft of clever storage solutions unparalleled in the compact sector, some of which have even been patented.
Using feedback from Vauxhall’s survey of motorists, a list was compiled of the 20 most common items customers stored in cars such as pens, coins, a flashlight, a road atlas, a parking disc, sunglasses, a wallet, paper tissues, a mobile phone, CDs, MP3 players, cups, magazines, newspapers, fruit, a first aid kit, a jacket, a 1.5/1.0/0.5-litre drinks bottle. And, of course, gloves.
Next, they noted where owners wanted to keep the items and then looked for practical solutions. This painstaking attention to detail has resulted in a variety of simple, but effective storage solutions. It includes a hard-shelled sunglass case inserted above the door opening on the driver’s side; coin slots and pen holders moulded into the inside edge of the glove box lid; and the glove box itself has two removable compartments, while a second mini-glove box has been added just below the light switch.
And those gloves? According to the survey, most owners don’t keep them in the glovebox at all. They usually get thrown in the door’s side pocket, next to the ice scraper.
